Ingredients
- 500g cleaned sardines (head and guts removed)
- Juice of 2 lemons
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (or cornmeal, if preferred)
- Oil for frying
Preparation method
- 1Season the Sardines: In a bowl, place the sardines and season with lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Let them marinate for about 30 minutes.
- 2Coat: Place the flour in a plate. Remove the sardines from the marinade and coat them well with the flour.
- 3Heat the Oil: Heat a frying pan with enough oil to fry the sardines over medium heat.
- 4Fry the Sardines: Once the oil is hot, carefully add the coated sardines. Avoid overcrowding the pan to keep the oil temperature stable. Fry until golden and crispy, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.
- 5Drain: Remove the fried sardines with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 6Serve: Serve the fried sardines hot with rice, salad, or farofa (toasted cassava flour).
